Yesterday we got a once-in-a-life-time chance to interview someone who may be the best soccer player Germany has ever seen, Franz Beckenbauer. Franz is known world wide for his record of 14 world cup goals. Our first question for the legend was, what do you think of your teams success. He responded "I think the German Soccer Team is the best team in the world," do you agree with him? I for one do, the German Soccer Team currently holds three World Cup trophies and three European Cups. 1954, 1974, 1990 are all of the years that they have won the World Cup. The success of the team is affectionately called a "wunder" the German word for miracle. With 42 goals in 17 games it is the highest-scoring team in the German Bundesliga. There is one little piece I left out there, the Germans soccer team thanked Dietmar Hopp for the unlikely success of the team. We concluded our interview by asking Beckenbauer if he thought the success of the team would continue. He responded confidently that he believes the teams success would continue as long as the players kept playing their best.

Rhine-Neckar Arena
Rhine-Neckar Arena
Two days ago we were at the Rhine-Neckar Arena, a 30,000 seat stadium that was being "inaugurated" by the German Soccer Team . We had been granted permission to enter the sky box where the leaders of the German Football Association were watching the inauguration. We asked them what they thought of the association they governed. They responded by saying, I think that this organization is wonderful, people of all ages and skill levels, from the E-Jugend (kids league) tho Professional leagues everyone has a chance to play a wonderful sport on a team. Some athletes still practice and train in a small little town where many fans collect to watch them and they also get snacks and fill up on fuel while they are in town. We also have the highest membership of any sports organization in the world, and have poured $200 million into players, stadiums, and youth training camps in the last decade. The German Football Association is divided five regional federations with
21 regional organizations. The German Football Organization was founded 1900 by 86 different clubs. Since then the clubs have expanded into 26,000, the Germany Soccer Association is the largest membership in the world.

The club currently has 2 million active athletes, 170,000 teams, and over 6000 members. Another Important thing to mention though is that there is more than one soccer league in germany.

For all you Americans reading this I would like to explain that soccer in Germany is very similar to soccer in America. In Germany soccer is played with two teams on the rectangular field at a time each consisting of 11 players. The teams score points by kicking the ball into their opponents goal which is defended by a goal keeper. The goal keeper or goalie is the only player on the field that can use his hands and arms besides if you were throwing the ball in from out of bounds. At the end of the game the team with the highest score wins! There are different positions to play for every different person on the soccer field. As I said before soccer in Germany is a lot like soccer in America.
This is how competitive soccer is!

Though not just the men's soccer team is doing good the woman's national soccer team is possibly one of the best in the world. They have one of the three Woman's World Cup trophies and were in second place for the second. The Woman's team also has six European Cup Trophies. Wow, not to mention their bronze medal in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics.
E Meisterschaft is the German word for championship. The Germans should be pretty familiar with winning that title.

People who are reading this may be Americans who speak German or Americans that don't know a word of German. Either way you should know what all of the soccer terms mean in German. Do you know what abseits means?
Abseits means off-sides, if you didn't know off-sides means that you get a pass when you are ahead of the opposing teams defenders. e Abwehr means defense, that is when you don't have the soccer ball. The opposite of defense is offense and that is when you have the ball, it is r Angreifer in German.

Over all soccer is the most favorite sport in Germany. Many Germans take pride in the accomplishments and achievements of their soccer team. Though soccer isn't just a sport that most Germans watch it is also a sport that almost all Germans play. Americans treat baseball like their most external image PRE7787.jpgpreferred sport and in Germany they treat soccer the way Americans treat baseball. So by far soccer is the most favored sport. They consider soccer or 'football" their national sport.

That about sums it all up and is the end of are article, so whenever your in Germany I would stop by to watch a game because you will probably get to see a good show!

The governing body of soccer in Germany is the German Football Association. It is based in Frankfurt and divided into five regional federations with 21 regional organizations.
The German Football Association was founded in 1900 by the representatives of 86 clubs. Those 86 clubs have expanded into the 26,000 clubs that are members today. There are over 2 million active players, and over 6 million members. It does not simply suffice to say that soccer is popular in Germany – the German Football Association has the largest membership of any sports federation in the world. And the members are not, of course, made solely up of male players. There are 870,000 female members and 8600 female soccer teams in Germany.
As stated above, the German Football Association is made up of five regional associations: north, west, south, southwest, and northeast. Then there are the 21 sub-regional associations. The whole German Football Association is very well planned and run. There are very many people who are very dedicated to keep the German Soccer running smoothly.
Professional soccer was introduced in Germany in 1963. The biggest successes for the German national team are the three World Cup titles that they hold (1954, 1974, 1990). That’s right! German soccer holds 2 more titles than English soccer. They have also won three European Championships (1972, 1980, 1996).
It is not just the German men that play soccer well. The German Football Association women won their first World Cup title in the USA in 2003 – there have only been a total of 3 women’s World Cup championships held. They’ve also won 6 European Championships and wer runners up to the World Cup in 1995. The German soccer women even won the bronze medal at the Olympics in 200 and also in 2004.

Football in Germany is about youngest members of the Junior League (E-Jugend) fighting their way to the top, dreaming about becoming as great as Sammer, Ballack and Beckenbauer. It is also about amateur kick-abouts in the park, and pub tournaments, like the FC Halbe Lunge or the SC Vorwärts Bauchspeck. What would football be without the faithful supporters of its clubs who are there in all weathers to spur on their team and who never miss an away game? It’s about the “Sportschau” (sports show) on Saturday evenings being enough for some people – they are all fans. In short: Football is Germany’s top sport.
